About Shayne

  I’m a bronze sculptor and scratch board artist born and raised in Idaho.  I grew up on the hill overlooking Blue Lake in the small community of Waha on the northern edge of the Craig Mountains where the trees meet the Snake River breaks of Hells Canyon. The lake and the mountains were my “north star”.

I’ve always been fascinated by Mother Nature and guided by her textures and patterns.  I followed that guide to a career in forestry and a lifetime of observing and experiencing the natural world.  Nature, family history, local cultural heritage and these experiences continue to shape my art.

As a sculptor, I am most moved by the predator/prey relationships of mammals, and the ecosystem-balancing mechanisms driven by the keystone species.  Critical habitat conservation for sensitive, threatened and endangered species, and wildlife conservation in general, are issues that grab me.

Always driven to express detail, movement and emotion in my art, I love the freedom to experiment with different textures and capturing the way that changing angles of perspective affect the feeling of a piece. I seek to represent in 3-dimensions the infinite combinations of reflected and refracted light.  It is as if my hands tell the stories of my heart in the animals and textures of my work.  

My wife and I live in Deary, Idaho, where I work from my home studio overlooking our horse pastures, garden, and fruit orchard, and I am inspired by the wildlife and the reflections of light that glint on the landscape.
