"Bengal Power" Bronze Tiger Sculpture Photo Gallery

Bengal Pride

In 2022 Shayne was commissioned by a group of donors and the Lewiston High School (LHS) in Lewiston Idaho to create a monumental (11 feet long!) bronze Bengal tiger mascot sculpture for installation at the new high school building. It was unveiled Oct 19, 2023.

The piece was a hit and another group of donors commissioned THIS powerful Bengal tiger for the entrance to the new P1FCU stadium in Lewiston, ID.  It  will also be 1.5x life size and should be completed in late 2025 or early 2026.

MANY STEPS TO COMPLETION!

The dream

Shayne did a mock-up of the tiger sculpture to ensure the pose met the approval of the donors.  This is a 15" maquette (clay model) in rough form.

Scanning up

Shayne traveled to Portland, OR, to have the 15" maquette scanned and printed as a 45" foam core. He added the clay and sculpted in the details over the next couple of months.

Adding detail

Working with clay in the summer months is a challenge and the teeth and claws were easily damaged as Shayne worked on the model.  He took elk and deer antlers and carved them into teeth and claws to hold their shape, especially for the transport back to  Portland,  Oregon!

Checking for accuracy

Living in North Idaho has its advantages.  Our neighbor trades in antler, fur and wildlife bones. Shayne borrowed a cleaned cougar skull to check for structure and anatomical accuracy.

Final scan

Here's what it looks like in a computer generated model.  The final monument size is 9 feet long from head to base of tail.    The sculpture will be 3D printed in 60-70 acrylic panels and transported to the foundry for final casting and assembly in bronze.  Every step of the creation requires an artistic touch.  Shayne is very grateful for the amazing staff at both foundries.

Next--the bronze work

Next--the bronze work

Once the  acrylic panels are transported to the Parks Bronze Foundry in Enterprise, OR, the Bengal Power sculpture will be cast and assembled in bronze.  After that, the patina will be applied and then Shayne will approve the final work and it can be transported to Lewiston for installation!  This is a life size giraffe getting some touch-ups at the foundry. Just an example of the great work they do for many artists.
